Three current paths are proposed, and theoretical analysis laboratory tests carried out to investigate the root causes of bearing failure in IGBT inverter-fed locomotives EMUs. The three types that run through drive unit bearings axle box used on EMUs electric classified as primary side path, main traction system path between vehicles EMU or locomotive it hauls. research found EDM caused by common mode voltage is distinguished cause resulting bogie motor load connected shaft. analyzed, thresholds density without causing damage analyzed presented. lab system’s verified does exist. proof identify erosion, such craters washboards, corresponding measures prevent proposed. Further about other two urgent necessary.
